Parasitology training course
Zoom

CISA ran a technical-practical training course in parasitology at the Bengo Health Technical Training School between 21st and 23rd October 2015. The main objective was to enable and encourage participants to deepen their knowledge on this field and, simultaneously, foster reflection on the importance of healthcare analytical techniques.

This training counted on the support of four CISA technical specialists, Carolina Gasparinho, Aguinaldo Kanjungo, Félix Zage and Maria de Fátima, who over the duration of the course approached themes such as intestinal parasites, schistosomiasis and malaria.

A total of 29 students from the first year of the Clinical Analysis program participated and were evaluated. They correspondingly gained the opportunity to clarify any doubts with the team of specialists as well as practicing techniques such as obtaining a thick drop, smear tests, rapid malaria tests, direct faecal examinations, examining urine for researching Schistosoma haematobium in the school’s own laboratory.

The student with the best results, Acácio Pedro Canguia, is to undertake an internship at CISA.

Further editions of this course are planned to cater for the remaining students in the first year at this school.
